The Children's Rehabilitation
Services at the University of Mississippi Medical Center provides comprehensive
multidisciplinary evaluation and treatment for children and adolescents
with physical, developmental or chronic medical disabilities.
Children's Rehab is part of the
Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children, the only hospital in Mississippi
especially equipped and staffed to treat sick and injured children.
Providing habilitative and rehabilitative care for patients from birth
to 18 years of age, the rehabilitation service's goal is the optimum development
of patients within the limits of their abilities so that they can
function with maximum independence in their homes, schools and communities.
An
interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, allied health professionals
and other professionals treat every patient who comes to the rehabilitation
services for care. These team members provide expertise in
| *medical and nursing care |
*speech therapy |
| *occupational therapy |
*education |
| *physical therapy |
*recreation therapy/child life |
| *psychology |
*neuropsychology |
| *social work |
*clinical psychology |
The treatment team consists of highly qualified specialists lead by the medical director, a professor of pediatric neurology, along with a physiatrist-an expert in rehabilitation. In addition, a full-time
nursing staff is available around the clock to provide health care.
The physician and nurses meet the medical needs of the patients and
participate directly in the rehabilitation efforts. Pediatric specialists
trained to care for the physically and developmentally challenged direct
all care for the patients.

Children’s Rehab. Services is accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). CARF is an organization that accredits rehab programs. Their focus is on the best care a patient and his or her family can receive in a rehab program with an emphasis on a team approach.
CRS received a three-year accreditation from CARF. A three-year accreditation is the highest level of accreditation that a rehab facility can receive. This award shows that CRS not only met but also has exceeded the standards that CARF set for rehab programs. |
